Celebrating Tavistock in the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site

Our society was founded in 1984 and has been going from strength to strength ever since. We organise meetings and visits and run a photographic archive, based in Court Gate on Bedford Square. We have set up a museum which is now a lively and entirely independent charity. If you're not within striking distance you can still obtain our newsletter and publications.

Founded in Saxon times, destroyed by Danish raiders, nurtured by Benedictine monks and then controlled by the Russells and the Dukes of Bedford until the great 1911 sell off, stannary, copper town, industrialised and de-industrialised, this attractive little town under the western ramparts of Dartmoor has a rich and varied history.
